Day by Day, the Fair

Closer look at my photography exhibition with darkroom prints.

“Photography is a medium accessible to almost everyone. Most likely, people take more photographs daily than handwritten notes. For this reason, it is more important than ever to highlight the possibilities and aspects of photography that remain overlooked in everyday “note-taking” use of the medium. At the same time, there is a general sense that everyone understands photography, knows how to create it, etc. Because of this, it is essential that we do not give up on the effort to learn, to try to understand things better, so that the general public does not shy away from exhibitions or from engaging with art that may initially seem incomprehensible. The question arises, though: Is it incomprehensible, or just misunderstood?

These are not straightforwardly readable photographs; the viewer must find their own way, try to interpret them, and ask themselves, “What is this about?” The artist works with details, copying, cropping, and repetition of the same motif – in other words, with everything that photography was invented for, and what are its advantages and perhaps its strengths. The exhibited series does not aim to fulfill the viewer’s expectations of typical photographs usually labeled as beautiful or picturesque. Instead, we are presented with a small sample of the search for beauty in everyday detail, perhaps an obsessive exploration, fumbling around for something that might fulfill the artist’s vision of good photography. In the end, we can only hope that this obsession with searching will also resonate with the viewer.” - text from Imrich Veber
